The SMS Meer business area together with SMS Siemag is the backbone of the SMS group, which is 100% owned by the Weiss family.

SMS Meer GmbH is the successor to "Gebrüder Meer GmbH", founded in 1872, which initially produced textile and steam machinery. Gebrüder Meer was taken over by Mannesmann in 1926. It was integrated into Mannesmann Demag in 1975.

SMS GmbH took over the Metallurgy division in 1999 under the leadership of Heinrich Weiss. Following the integration of the tube and copper plants business into SMS Demag, the SMS Meer business area was founded in 2001. Various product units of the then SMS Demag were subsequently integrated into SMS Meer (Forging machines, Section mills) On 1 January 2011 SMS Concast became the latest addition to the SMS Meer business area.

Including our Swiss steelmaking specialists SMS Meer's order intake was EUR 1.3 billion and sales EUR 1.2 billion.

Around 3,000 people worldwide are employed at the "blue" business area.
